The Bone Orchard

2014, 303 pages
Fiction
Mike Bowditch has resigned from the Warden Service and is working as a Maine guide for out-of-state fishermen. He enjoys his work, but can’t quite shake the feeling that he should still be a warden. When his mentor in the Warden Service, Kathy Frost, is involved in a “suicide by cop” incident and then seriously injured in an ambush shooting, Mike feels compelled to get involved.
His personal investigation irritates leaders of the official investigation and involves Mike in dangerous situations. Is he able to locate the shooter without getting himself killed? This novel is part of a series about Mike Bowditch and is the best book yet. Mike is a complicated character who fits into the rural Maine setting, which the author, a Maine native himself, has captured beautifully. The plot moves quickly and the reader learns there is a location named Pennacook in the state of Maine.
