Concord Hospital has received an A in patient safety in a national review of hospital safety procedures and practices.
The grade puts Concord Hospital in the top third of more than 2,500 general hospitals reviewed for their ability to prevent errors, injuries, accidents and infections to patients.
“Concord Hospital works tirelessly to improve patient safety,” said Robert P. Steigmeyer, Concord Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer. “Our A grade shows our efforts are working and that our patients can be confident procedures are in place, and being followed, to protect them from preventable harm while hospitalized.”
Of the 2,520 hospitals issued a Fall 2014 Hospital Safety Score, 790 earned an “A,” 688 earned a “B,” 868 earned a “C,” 148 earned a “D” and 26 earned an “F.”
The survey is based on 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data such as infections acquired in the hospital, falls, staffing, training, proper medication, use of technology in ordering medications and handwashing by staff.
Concord Hospital scored a B in the Spring 2014 Hospital Safety Score. The A grade this fall was the result of improvement in several patient safety measures.
The Hospital Safety Score is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
