Wings of Knowledge continues March 3

On Tuesday, March 3 at 6 p.m. in the library living room, NHTI will present the next in its series of free public Wings of Knowledge lectures for the 2014-15 season: “Furniture Made in New Hampshire,” with Lynn Szymanski.

Szymanski has been making furniture since 1991. She has exhibited nationally and taught at the University of New Hampshire, Fitchburg State University and San Diego State University. For three years, she was head of the woodworking program at the Worcester Center for Crafts, where she organized an exhibition of chairs curated by the late Sam Maloof. She has been a member of the Furniture Society since 1998, serving in various capacities including treasurer and interim director. She has an MFA in Furniture Design from San Diego State University.

Launched in 2001-02, Wings of Knowledge is an annual series of cultural events presented by the college. All events are free and open to the public. The series supports and expands upon NHTI’s wide variety of academic offerings, and is another element in the college’s expanding community college mission. Subsequent events in the series will include, April 7: Culture in Many Societies – An NHTI foreign student shares insights of home and culture; April 28: Kevin Gardner – Gardner’s talk will cover a few of the main topics of his book about New England stone walls, The Granite Kiss (Countryman Press), touching on history, technique, stylistic development and aesthetics.
