Name: Anni Stanley-Smith
How old are you? 26 1/2.
Where do you live? In tropical Goffstown!
Where do you work? The Capital Area Public Health Network, an initiative of Granite United Way.
Where did you go to school? Long story short, I was born in New Hampshire but grew up in Virginia. So, I went to high school at an awesome school called Rockbridge County High. One fun fact about Rockbridge is that it was designed by the same guy who built the local jail, across the street. So, there were obviously some high expectations for students, but if you did get in some trouble at least you wouldn’t get lost!
When I moved back to New Hampshire I went to SNHU for my BS in Industrial Organizational Psychology and have loved watching the transformation the campus has gone through.
What do you like to do for fun? I love trying new things and I’ll do just about anything (as long as I won’t hurt myself or someone else) at least once. Here’s the short list of fun: laser tag, traveling, watercolors, rock climbing, Cards Against Humanity, skiing, soccer, welding, museums, flying, eating, and brewing tea. Yes, brewing tea is fun.
How did you find out about CYPN and how has it benefitted your business or you personally? I found out about CYPN through other young professionals at my work. CYPN has helped me to get more comfortable networking. I feel like I can talk to anyone now and I’ve made a lot of great professional and personal relationships through it.
CYPN also gave me the chance to flex my professional development muscles with the opportunity to organize the Stay Work Play Give non-profit fair on April 21. I’m one of the youngest people in my organization, so I haven’t had the opportunity to organize an event completely on my own before. I wouldn’t have had the chance to work directly with folks like Heidi Schmidt from NHTI, but through CYPN we’ve been able to work together on projects like the Stay Work Play Give non-profit fair. It’s a great opportunity because we come from different organizations, but when we work together we can share experiences from both our perspective backgrounds and I believe in the merit of that persity.
What’s your favorite restaurant in Concord? The Red Blazer. Their menu is so perse that you can make the pickiest eater happy. That dessert tray, doe!
What’s your favorite place to go in Concord? I think what I really love is all the perse places on Main Street like Zoe & Co., Red River Theatres and Live Juice. I never get bored walking downtown and looking in on all the different shops. I really feel like I’m investing in the community when I shop downtown.
Favorite movie of all time? Forest Gump! “I may not be a smart man, Jenny, but I know what love is” can reduce me to tears at any time.
What is one of your life goals? Fun life goal: To get a pilot’s license. Serious life goal: To create systems changes that lead to efficiencies and create healthier communities.
Favorite famous person? Freddie Mercury.
Where is the best place you’ve visited? Thailand. My brothers have been working in Europe for the past couple of years, but it’s expensive to have family vacations there. So, a few years ago, we all met up in Thailand at the Village Coconut Island Resort off of Phuket. They had awesome water slides and my brothers invented “the quad launch” where we would all line up, with our feet on the shoulders of the person in front of us, in the slide and then basically just kick them down the slide. There were times I went so I fast I have not had that much fun since I was a little kid. Seriously, better than Disney.
Who would you really like to meet? I would really like to meet people who come to the Stay Work Play Give non-profit fair on April 21. It will be a great time to meet local non-profits who are looking for board members or volunteers. You’ll get to know the organizations that are making a difference in our community by moving the needle on issues like substance misuse, health care, education, and other impactful matters. You’ll also be able to network with CYPN members and hear first-hand about the organizations that they support. Mark your calendars and wait to hear more from CYPN about the event.
