The Capital Quilters Guild will host its biannual quilt show this weekend at NHTI, and it wants all of you to come.
More than 200 quilts will be on display for your viewing pleasure in the Goldie Crocker Gymnasium, as the guild members show off some of their hard work over the last two years. The quilts are only for looking at, except for the “touch me” quilt, which as its name indicated, you’re allowed to put your hands on.
Reflections and Visions, the name for the ninth biannual show which began back in 1999, will be held both Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
With Concord celebrating its 250th year of existence, there will be a special section of 12-by-12 inch quilts dedicated to historical places, people and things like Concord Coach, Matt Bonner, the N.H. Audubon and Concord Police. The guild will also honor the memory of former member Betty Clardy.
“When something is happening in Concord we try to go with it and include it in our show,” said quild president Evelyn Johnson.
While some of the quilts may fall into your category of must haves, the quilts are not for sale.
“It’s just a show and tell,” Johnson said. “That’s what the guild is all about, just showing off what we’ve done.”
There will be a people’s choice award, and there is a way to go home with a quilt – if you win first prize in the raffle. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and the top prize is a large quilt titled, Symphony in Blue. Second prize is a new Janome Sewing Machine and third and fourth prizes result in a large of haul of fat quarters, which are pieces of fabric cut into 18-by-22 inch sections.
Entry to the show is $6 for general admission and $5 for seniors and students. It’s a cash only thing so make sure you hit up the bank ahead of time and bring a little extra for some raffle tickets. Vendors will be on hand and there will also be a bake sale.
