Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell builds a raft out of city memos and sets sail for the Caribbean. He makes it to Penacook, then sinks. Thankfully the rescue teams are able to revive the memos, and we triumphantly shared this week’s here!

Hygiene is important, yo
Concord Human Services received a wonderful donation of hygiene items this week which replenished its shelves, Aspell writes. There wasn’t any floss, though, because everyone just waits until they go to the dentist to floss. Right?
Tracy Scavarelli, managing attorney for the N.H. Public Defenders program, asked what was needed for the pantry and then organized a very successful drive in her office (she did not, however, drive in her office). Scavarelli and her co-workers purchased numerous items such as toothpaste, shampoo, soap, conditioner, deodorant and toilet paper; all items that are costly for those on tight budgets. These items are not available for purchase with food stamps and are essential. The department helps people every day with hygiene, paper products and cleaning products, and appreciates the donation.
The department also wants to thank Jason Dexter and his family for dropping off a donation of hygiene items last week. These thoughtful and generous donations really make a difference for those the department serves and it is truly grateful for the support of the inpiduals that make this possible.

Firemen take a dip
Seven Fire Department members recently completed a three-day swiftwater rescue certification course. They all received immediate A’s because there were no fires in the water!
The course was taught by Battalion Chief Brian Saltmarsh. Nine Fire Department officers completed the National Fire Department Academy Incident Safety Officer course, which was taught by Bureau Chief Aaron McIntire.
