Don’t clog stuff up
Concord General Services will be including a reminder to consumers on their upcoming water bills about how to prevent blockages in the city’s sanitary sewer system, Aspell writes. Step one? No more dumping your leftover concrete mix down there.
Included will be information regarding how common products, such as wipes, diapers, feminine products and more may be labeled as “flushable” when, in fact, anything flushed other than human waste and toilet paper can actually cause plumbing blockages for the property owner, sewer overflows and increased efforts for the city’s sewer crew and wastewater treatment plants. So tell your kid to stop flushing his Legos.
On the following month’s bill, water consumers will be advised to keep fats, oils and grease (FOG) out of the sewer system by not pouring these food byproducts down the drain. Since FOG transitions from liquid to solid as it cools, FOG can harden and stick to the plumbing, causing severe blockages that could lead to sewage backups and overflows, as well as costly maintenance and repairs for both the property owner and the city.

Sewer news, part II
So much sewerosity
Last week, the contractor continued with the Fisherville Road sewer main installation, just south of the Borough/Manor Road intersection, Aspell writes. The items described as bad to flush in the previous entry are still bad to flush, FYI, even in a new sewer.
This work will continue through this week. Commuters can expect minor delays with alternating one-way traffic through the work zone. One of those alternating ways will not be up.
