In a time when many arts’ communities seem to be shrinking, Piccola Opera is working to promote a musical renaissance in downtown Concord. With a new studio and office on 8 N. Main St., this music organization is hard at work preparing for some new and innovative classes and offerings.
On Saturday, Aug. 29, Piccola will hold an open house from 9 to 11:30 a.m., to introduce their newest endeavor “Piccola Opera Academy.” This music academy will offer varied and unique programming in classical vocal music for all ages and levels of singing. The open house will have refreshments, registration for fall classes and lessons with a 15 percent discount, and information on special upcoming events at the Concord City Auditorium.
In addition to offering voice and piano lessons, Piccola Opera Academy’s fall classes will include “Opera 101” which will use video and recordings to delve into the rich and historical world of opera. The academy will also offer an “Art Song Masterclass” which will work on the rich repertoire found in the French, German and Italian classical artsong literature. And, Piccola Academy will also offer “Bambini Musicali,” a fun filled music and movement class for the younger set, ages 4–6.
Piccola Opera will also be accepting registrations for the 1st Annual Music Theatre Youth Competition, which will select 10 young performers ages 10-17 to compete on stage of the Concord City Auditorium on Oct. 3. A cash prize of $250 will be offered to the first place winner.
All material and information will be available at the open house. Everyone is invited to join us!
