Refugee documentary coming to Red River

On Nov. 4 at 7 p.m,, The Refugees of Shangri-La, a documentary about a group of refugees from Bhutan and their journey to resettle in New Hampshire, will premier at Red River Theatres. The film was produced and directed by New Hampshire artists Doria Bramante and Markus Weinfurter and features Manchester and Concord residents.

The documentary explores the indomitable spirit of an ethnic minority, made refugees, from the remote Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. After 20 years in exile, many abandon hopes of returning to their mother land seek a future in a place called America. The film follows a community on a journey into a strange new world, striving against daunting odds with hope, optimism and an enduring smile.

Filmgoers will have a chance to hear from the film’s directors and members of the Bhutanese Community of New Hampshire at the pre-screening reception or during the panel discussion that will follow the film.
