If you make it to downtown Concord Friday evening, you might want to keep your eye out for superheroes.
We know what you are thinking and no, Superman, Batman and Iron Man won’t be making an appearance, but there will be plenty of young children dressed up like their comic book favorites.
The annual Halloween Howl will take over Main Street in anticipation of next week’s big holiday and organizers expect a big turnout.
“It’s always a great time for the community,” said Liza Poinier of Intown Concord. “It’s just packed with people in costume. All ages of people come and a lot of the grown-ups even wear costumes.”
The free event will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and there will be a lot going on during those two hours. Trick-or-treating at local businesses will run for the entire time of the event, as will horse drawn wagon rides that load at the corner of Park and North Main streets and cost $3 per person.
“The local merchants go all out with decorations and music and games,” said Poinier. “It brings a lot of people downtown.”
The signature portion of the evening will take place when the annual costume parade, led by WJYY’s DJ Nazzy and Mya, begins at City Plaza at 6 p.m.
“A big highlight for a lot of folks is the costume parade,” said Poinier. “It’s so fun to see all the costumes.”
New to this year’s lineup are a free climbing wall, which will run until dark, and a free photo booth.
Double Midnight Comics, a new downtown business at 67 S. Main St., will be open on Friday, giving away free comics along with costumed characters and artists at the store. Following the event, the Ghost Dinner Band will play at Bicentennial Square at 7:30 p.m. Red River Theatres will show Rocky Horror Picture Show at 9 p.m. North Main Street from Centre Street to Pleasant will be closed from 4 to 8 p.m. For more information, visit intownconcord.org.
