The annual Heights Community Old Home Day will be back June 28 at Keach Park (on the Heights) from noon to 8 p.m. This year, we will kick off the event with an opening ceremony consisting of a mini field parade of decorated bicycles, wagons, baby strollers and costumed paraders.
Here is the full schedule of events and instructions on how to become an entrant in some of the many contests (rain date for the event is June 29):
Noon: Parade around Keach Park. Line up by Newton Avenue by 11:45 a.m. Entrants to include best decorated bicycle (cash prize), best decorated baby stroller/wagon (cash prize), best Patriotic costume (cash prize) as well as candidates for Eldest Heights Cane Award (must live on Heights) and candidates for Little Miss and Junior Miss Heights.
Main stage: 12:30-1 p.m., a capella or barbershop quartet; 1-2 p.m., Little Miss and Junior Miss Heights pageant talent show (prizes for the top three, who must live or have family ties to the Heights. Pre-registration required); 2-3 p.m., singer/songwriter Andrew Davis; 3 p.m., awards ceremony featuring recipient of the 2014 Heights Community Cane, parade awards and bake-off awards; 3:30-4:30 p.m., singer/musician Will Hatch; 5:30-7:30 p.m., local Concord 11-piece band Jasmine.
Other activities: 1:30-2 p.m., best in homemade and restaurant dessert bake-off (pre-registration required) featuring best pie (blue ribbon and cash prize) and best strawberry dessert (blue ribbon and cash prize); 2:30-3:15 p.m., “Frisball” competition (cash prize); 3-4 p.m., horseshoe competition (cash prize); 3:15-3:45 p.m., home run derby contest (cash prize).
Memorabilia booths/other booths: Noon-6 p.m., Heights community featured – Harriet P. Dame and Dame School; Immanuel Community booth; local artisans; other organizations.
Kids alley: Noon-6 p.m., activities include face painting, mini-carnival games, hula-hoop contest, sack races and coloring contest.
Food vendors: Quality Cash Market, Poison Pete’s Hot Dogs and Miss Polly Traveling Treats.
Free admission. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs.
