Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell puts on his sleeveless “Sun’s out, guns out” T-shirt and proceeds to flex for the entire workday. Exhausted by 3 p.m., he falls asleep at his desk. Thankfully he mutters a city memo while snoozing.
What time is it?
It’s game time
Staff of the Parks and Recreation Department have been busy preparing the athletic fields for fall sports, Aspell writes. Is Can Jam an official interscholastic fall sport yet? It should be.
The department maintains the following in the fall: Twelve soccer fields, one field hockey field, two football fields, six gladiator coliseums, a softball field and numerous smaller practice areas. The staff also continues the maintenance of all the neighborhood parks, outdoor gazebos, outdoor basketball courts, and almost 20 outdoor tennis courts. All athletic fields, courts and gazebos can be rented based on availability. But you can’t move them to your house. Call 225-8690 for more information.
Oh Christmas tree
Why are you here already?
Penacook Village is looking greener, Aspell writes. And not just because he likes to rock green-tinted glasses. The permanent Christmas tree in Boudreau Square, a beautiful Norway Spruce, has been planted, along with the remaining red oaks. Several confused reindeer have already been told to come back in about four months.
Also, the landscaping at Poulin Park has been completed, as well as the center island of the roundabout. The hardscape around the monument is scheduled to begin this week. The top course of pavement on the Boscawen side of the bridge, along with Elm Street and the city parking lot on Canal Street, will take place this week as well. One lane of traffic will continue to be maintained through the work zone.
