The Concord Boys and Girls Club is collecting model cars and airplanes for a program that will allow middle school children to put them together.
There are about 55 students in grades 5-8 that the group hopes to accomodate. Donations of models will furnish the program, which will run for about two months, according to Sonia Wilks, the Boys and Girls Club program director.
“We're trying to come up with creative ways to teach them patience, teamwork and follow-through, dedication and commitment to completing something,”
Wilks said. “One of the focuses we have in the middle school group is trying to keep them off the computer. Nowadays everyone is really into the internet and gaming, so we're trying to bring back some old-school skills and hobbies that people used to have.”
Those interested in donating a model or otherwise getting involved can contact Wilks at 410-5176 or via email at wilks@concordkids.org.
