City briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell raises a few million dollars, hires a campaign staff and runs for president of the United States. To date, he has yet to win, but his city memo-themed concession speeches are consolation enough for the Insider.

I see you ski

Slowly, on flat ground

The cross-country ski trails at Beaver Meadow Golf Course are in great condition, Aspell writes. (Switching to infomercial voice) And you could be too, if you get out and use them! Trail use is free. Even with the exchange rate, that’s pretty affordable.

But we were just skiing

Did someone say spring?

Just to confuse you following talk of winter and skiing, the Parks and Recreation Department’s spring brochure is now available and registration for spring programs is in full swing, Aspell writes. So cross-country ski on over to sign up! Brochures will be delivered to Concord/Penacook schools this week. Information is also available online at concordnh.gov/recreation. If you scratch your computer screen, you can even smell fresh cut grass. Wait, that’s not what that smell is?

And now, back to winter

Man, this is confusing

Tired of all this spring talk? So are we. Let’s season this discussion with a little salt and sand!

The General Services Department maintains piles of salt/sand mixture at the following locations for use by Concord residents, Aspell writes:

Recycling and transfer station, 77 Old Turnpike Road, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; Wastewater Treatment Plant, 125 Hall St., gates close at 3:30 p.m.; Manor Dump, Abbott Road, Penacook, no specific hours.

It is requested that residents take no more than two 5-gallon buckets at a time. This is also true of the free ice cream given out from Aspell’s front porch.

The city will endeavor to maintain sufficient stockpiles at these locations throughout the winter months. And we will endeavor to use the phrase sufficient stockpiles at least one more time in this issue.

Hockey means winter, right?

A fine Dame she is

The Parks and Recreation Department would like to thank the St. Paul’s School boys’ hockey team for its help in painting and reorganizing the former Dame School earlier this week, Aspell writes. The facility is on track to open as a community center in early March. The boys brought sufficient stockpiles of enthusiasm to the project.
