Fiction
A drug bust takes place on the Tipton farm, located on a remote road in a forest north of Vancouver, Wash. Zookeeper Iris Oakley and her coworker Denny are sent there on a mission to retrieve parrots and reptiles, but instead they find smuggled exotic animals. Iris not only wants to save the animals that are endangered but to find out who are the suppliers of the smuggled animals. Then she discovers the body of a young girl and something that may be a clue to the killer’s identity.
The two Tipton brothers make bail, and suddenly Iris’s life becomes very complicated. She has a young son to care for, she’s begun dating again, and the Tiptons think she knows about something hidden on the farm.
This is a fast-paced mystery with a likeable heroine and an insider’s look at working in a zoo. The author worked for the Oregon Zoo for 12 years as a zookeeper before beginning her writing career.
