Despite a massive downpour lasting most of the day, participants showed up June 26 for a late-afternoon Walk in Their Shoes fundraising event organized by the Concord Coalition to End Homelessness. Within minutes of starting the walk, the rain stopped and the sun broke through, making the walk at lot easier than it might have been. Participants walked along parts of the routes traveled by the homeless on a daily basis. The walk began and ended at the Friendly Kitchen, with refreshments served when the walk was complete.
Among donors who walked, or raised money and skipped the walk, one Concord teenager plopped down $600 he’d collected from friends and neighbors. Other participants raised varying amounts – from $10 to more than $600 – adding up to more than expected, particularly given the weather.
The proceeds will benefit the Concord Homeless Resource Center (CHRC) at 6B S. State St. Donations are always welcome.
