Weekend on the Water is coming to Kiwanis Riverfront Park on Sept. 7-8. This is your chance to get involved with the first-ever dragon boat races in New Hampshire! A dragon boat team consists of 22 people – 20 paddlers, a drummer and a helmsman. Races will be held on Sept. 7 from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. Come spend a fun day on the Merrimack!
The Mad Dog Fitness Challenge, a 5K urban obstacle course race, tests your physical and mental strength and develops camaraderie among other Mad Dog competitors. Join the fun as a team or go solo! Either way, you will love the thrill of doing it. The race is set up for you to run through several Concord parks, where you will attempt to conquer obstacles that are placed throughout the race course.
The Black Ice Pond Hockey Association is proud to sponsor the first Capital Cup Brew Festival, Sept. 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. as well as the beer garden (hours 11 a.m.-6 p.m.). Tickets may be purchased in advance for $15 (10 beer tickets and a commemorative glass) at blackicepondhockey.com or $20 day of the event.
The Super Duck Boat is coming to Concord on Sept. 7 as well! It’s a high-level tour of the city, taking in the NHTI campus, McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center and the Redstone Rocket, the historic North End including the Franklin Pierce Manse, White Park, the Mary Baker Eddy house and church, the state house and surrounding historic buildings, North and South Main streets, the Capitol Center for the Arts, the site of the original Concord Coach factory and back to Riverfront Park. Tours (which are land-only) start at 10 a.m. and seats ($5 each) can be booked at concordnhrotary.com.
The first Rotary Duck Race will take place on the river adjacent to Everett Arena on Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. 7,000 ducks will be launched; the first 10 to enter the finishing trap win cash prizes (first, second and third win trophies as well). Cost per duck is $5 and a “Quack Pack” of five ducks is $20. Tickets will be available at the Rotary trailer and other charity tents on Saturday and Sunday until sold out.
