Concord Green Drinks event

Jon Turk, internationally acclaimed scientist, adventurer and author will be featured at the 10th gathering of Concord Green Drinks on the fourth Tuesday, March 23, at Hermanos, 11 Hills Ave. The day and date of this gathering was changed to accommodate Jon Turk’s book tour. Following Turk will be Concord’s own Tim Farmer, owner of S & W Sports, who is a bicycling enthusiast and dedicated advocate.

Turk’s book, “The Raven's Gift: A Scientist, a Shaman, and Their Remarkable Journey Through the Siberian Wilderness,” recounts his two-year kayak expedition across the North Pacific, where he met Moolynaut, the last of the northeast Siberian shamans who was raised in a Stone Age culture. She healed an old injury that had been troubling him. Over time, Moolynaut and the reindeer people of the tundra introduced him to shamanistic wisdom, which is centered around a life-altering spiritual connection to the landscape. As an educator, Turk wrote the first environmental science textbook in North America. As an adventurer, his crossing of the North Pacific was rated by Paddler Magazine as one of the “10-Best All-Time Sea Kayaking” expeditions. Following Jon Turk is Tim Farmer. As an active supporter of the Friends of the Northern Rail, Tim and this group are dedicated to turning abandoned railways into usable recreational paths here in New Hampshire and Farmer is one of the founding members of the Central New Hampshire Bike Coalition, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness, educates, and holds fundraisers in order to promote the benefits of cycling for health, transportation, and ultimately fun! He will be speaking on the international initiative, “1 World 2 Wheels.” This commitment by Trek Corporation and its dealers is a pledge to make the world a more bike friendly place. Additionally, Farmer will present evidence to support why more trips can and should be taken by bike. From traffic congestion to pollution to global warming, there are many reasons for all of us to ride, especially for trips under two miles. Visit http://www.swsports.net for more.
