Songs for spring
March is “music in our schools” month, and Karen Riess, the Concord School District’s webmaster, wants everyone to know how the city is celebrating. The district has been hosting concerts for the last few weeks, and has two more planned before month’s end.
Tonight at 7 p.m., choruses from Concord High School and Rundlett Middle School take the stage at the Capital Center for the Arts. Tickets are $5.
On Wednesday March 31, the middle and high school jazz bands will perform for free at the high school. That show also starts at 7 p.m.
“All community members are welcome to come and enjoy the musical talents of our students,” Riess writes. “You do not need to have a child in any of the performances in order to attend.”
As if all that musical talent wasn’t enough, each show will also feature a presentation of students’ artwork.
Send local robots (and kids) to Atlanta
Congratulations are in order for the Bishop Brady robotics team, which has dominated in recent competitions in Manchester and Maryland. The team’s last performance was so good, it earned Brady a spot at an international competition in Atlanta on April 15.
Students estimate that the trip will cost at least $22,000. They’ve been raking yards, hosting fundraising and looking for sponsors.
Interested donors should send checks payable to BBHS Robotics Team 1517 to Bishop Brady High School, Attention Deb Slocum, 25 Columbus Avenue, Concord, NH 03301.
Reading all around
We’ve heard that the students at Beaver Meadow Elementary School will brush elbows with celebrity next month. Gov. John Lynch is expected to visit the school April 2 to celebrate the completion of a school-wide literacy program. Earlier this month, each student’s family received a book and a set of related activities. Teachers are encouraging reading too, with special classroom activities.
Maybe some Beaver Meadow students will read this and drop us a note about their adventures with the governor.
Hoops and more
Students at Concord High hosted three just-for-fun tournaments last week: Dodge ball, ping pong and three-on-three basketball. Sounds like a blast, guys. Send us some photos, please!
