Urine trouble
On July 29 about 10 a.m., Officer Mark Hassapes responded to Merrimack County Pretrial Services on Main Street for a reported breach of bail.
There, he met pretrial services officer Kevin Ganley, who told him that Justin Briggs, 19, of Concord had violated his bail conditions.
According to Ganley, Briggs came into the office with a comdom filled with urine, which was tied to his pants.
Ganley said Briggs had been arrested early that month and was released. As part of his bail conditions, Briggs was ordered to refrain from using alcohol and narcotics, and to submit to random drug testing.
“Briggs violated this condition by attempting to falsify his urine test results with a foreign liquid,” Hassapes wrote.
Simple assault
Juliann Bertolino, 30, of Warner was arrested on July 30.
According to Officer Craig Levesque’s report, he was dispatched to 2 Martin St. about 6:30 p.m. for a report of domestic disturbance. Upon arriving, Levesque spoke with Bertolino’s ex-husband, who told him Bertolino was drunk and refused to leave.
Bertolino’s ex-boyfriend told the police the pair had split three years earlier and that Bertolino showed up at his front door the night before and asked to stay the night, according to the police report.
The next day, the ex-boyfriend told the police, Bertolino “got really drunk.” He told the police Bertolino had a drinking problem and had recently been to rehab for it.
He said he asked her to stop drinking, but she said no and continued to drink, the report said. He asked her to leave and she wouldn’t, he said, so he picked up her bags and brought them outside. Bertolino then started throwing punches, he said, and hit him in the arms and hands, so he called the police.
Upstairs, Levesque said he found Bertolino lying on the kitchen floor and asked if she was alright. She refused to talk to Levesque, the report said, but “it was clear she was drunk,” the officer wrote.
Later, Bertolino got on her feet and told Levesque she had nowhere else to go.
“I asked her if (Bertolino and her ex-boyfriend) got into a fight,” Levesque wrote. “She stated that her ex would never hit her because he knew that she could take him in a fight.”
Bertolino was arrested for simple assault and criminal trespass and transported to the Merrimack County House of Corrections pending arraignment.
