The results are in!
In this week’s Insider, we discovered some of Concord’s hiddens gems. City Manager Tom Aspell’s weekly memo is does not fall into that category. Why, you ask? Because everyone already knows how great it is, duh!
Here are the highlights, you’ve been waiting for:
This week yields some rather important results. Yes, we’re talking about the outcome of the city’s household hazardous waste day held at the Everett Arena on Sept. 25.
“More than 500 cars brought items ranging from oil-based paints and pesticides to flammable liquids,” Tom wrote in awe. “The cost to the city for providing this service was more than $23,000. A small portion of this cost will be covered by a grant from the state of New Hampshire.”
There you have it. We’re proud to have brought you this not-so-breaking news.
Still time for b-ball
Tom wrote that the recreation department has extended the basketball registration deadline for children in grades 4 to 6 until Nov. 8 at noon.
Children registered prior to Nov. 8, will be placed on their school team. Kiddos late to sign up will be placed on teams that need players and may not be on their neighborhood school team, Tom added.
Big kids, don’t fret: The deadline for older pisions (grades 7 to 12) will still be on Nov. 24.

Move over, A-team
It’s a bird, it’s a plane . . . no! It’s Concord’s newest task force!
According to Tom, the Concord Fire Department is working with the Central New Hampshire Planning Commission to revise the city’s hazard mitigation plan.
A task force has been established with representatives from the police department, general services and community development departments, as well as the private sector, Tom wrote.
Luckily for you, can hear all about the team’s adventures. Task force meetings are open to the public.
Here’s what to put into your calendar: All meetings begin at 9 a.m. and are held at the fire department’s headquarters, 24 Horseshoe Pond Lane. Dates include Nov. 17, Dec. 15, Jan. 12, Feb. 25, March 23 and April 13.

Rockingham Street and Loudon Road updates
Here’s the latest news on the Rockingham Street sidewalk project: This week, the contractor will replace and reconstruct the drainage catch basins to align with the sidewalk, Tom wrote.
Not only that, granite curbing will be installed and the roadway will be prepared for sidewalk construction.
But wait, there’s more!
“The contractor continues to install a new water main on Loudon Road, east of Hazen Drive,” Tom wrote. This week, the contractor will be working between between Ormond Street and the Heights Fire Station. Traffic is restricted to one lane in each direction, so you may want to seek alternative routes.
