Families in Transition seeks applications from agencies throughout New Hampshire that are interested in becoming a host site of a professional AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer in 2011. VISTA host sites benefit from receiving the support of a full-time staff member, a VISTA volunteer, without the high cost of salary and benefits.
AmeriCorps VISTA, a program of the Corporation for National & Community Service , comprises a nationwide network of volunteers who commit to serve full-time for at least one year at nonprofit, faith-based, or government agency host sites working to fight poverty throughout the United States. The Families in Transition VISTA Program partners with organizations such as the YWCA New Hampshire, the City of Manchester and after-school programs across the state of New Hampshire to place VISTAs in the following service areas: education, veterans' services, economic opportunity, health, and disaster relief and prevention.
“Our VISTA program will bring the benefits of VISTA to agencies and inpiduals across New Hampshire,” said FIT VISTA Program Manager Pamela Punsky.
Qualifying host sites must fulfill a number of program requirements and complete an application process through Families in Transition VISTA Program by March 4. Interested agencies are strongly encouraged to attend, in person or via teleconference, a VISTA Information Session at 161 S. Beech St., Manchester, on Feb. 22 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., to learn more about the Families in Transition VISTA Program. Agencies must RSVP by Feb. 17 by calling 641-9441 or e-mailing cjabczanka@fitnh.org.
Prospective VISTA host sites may also apply online using the application procedure and materials found at fitnh.org. To learn more about the AmeriCorps VISTA program, interested agencies can also visit americorps.gov/VISTA.
