Dear Insiders,
(In reference to the Tara Mounsey Q&A in the Black Ice issue): Tara Mounsey did not skate circles around the boys. I doubt she could have, but in any case it was not her role on the team. Her role was to move the TEAM out of the defensive zone with speed and in position to attack. She was superb at it.
She was a better skater than any boy she played against and used that ability to make great passes to her team, steer players off the puck and, in her freshman year, make occasional resounding checks. She was also by far the best high school player I have ever seen in keeping the puck in the offensive zone at the point.
I was a big fan of her hockey playing skills and I will tell everyone she earned every bit of the player of the year award. The remark is particularly inappropriate because she did in fact skate circles around the women collegians while playing for Brown.
How about a serious interview with Tara Mounsey? There is much the community could learn from her thoughts and reflections on her experience. She used to be notably articulate so the Insider interview seems to reflect your reporting style.
It is not clear a serious interview is an Insider story, but it would be well worth doing no matter where published.
I do not know Mounsey personally but found her to be a fascinating public figure well beyond the hockey so as a reader I would like to know these things.
