The pond and hockey rink at White Park and the Merrill Park skating area is officially closed for the season, Aspell writes, as the heavy wet snow and rain will make the ice conditions too dangerous for equipment to venture onto. If temperatures allow, the General Services Department will attempt to maintain skating at Rollins Park for as long as possible. It has been a great skating season with over 50 days of skating on White Park Pond!

Fenway faithful
The Recreation Department still has Boston Red Sox tickets available for the April 29 game against Ichiro and the Seattle Mariners. Tickets cost $65 each for residents and $75 each for non-residents, Aspell writes. The fee covers school bus transportation and admission to the game. Wear Red Day
The City Employee Wellness Program hosted the National Awareness Movement “Wear Red Day” on Feb. 4, a day when Americans show their support for women's heart disease awareness by wearing red. Heart disease is the number one killer of women, claiming the lives of 433,000 American women each year. Nearly 37% of all female deaths in America occur from cardiovascular disease, which includes coronary heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. One in three women die from heart disease; one in 30 die of breast cancer. Approximately 47 city employees registered and many more participated in the movement, Aspell writes.
corridor improvements
Public meeting
On March 10 at 6:30 p.m., the Engineering Services Division will host a public meeting in City Council Chambers regarding Phase 4a of the Route 3 Corridor Improvement Project (CIP #35). Staff will review the final design and discuss the construction schedule, Aspell writes. This phase of the project includes North State Street, from Palm Street to Call Street. Residents and commuters are encouraged to attend.
