Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell takes us hard to the rim and slam-dunks a city memo in our face. This week was no exception, as he broke our ankles with a killer crossover and jammed home a 360 degree between-the-legs windmill of a memo. Think you’re game? Read on.

New library app
The Concord Public Library now has a mobile application that makes it easier to search the library’s catalog with a smartphone (iPhone, Blackberry, Android, etc.). The mobile application, Aspell writes, allows patrons to search for material from a search box with a drop-down menu. It also allows access to account information and the ability to renew and reserve materials with a library barcode and PIN, as well as to check on library hours and events. To go to the mobile catalog, visit concordnh.gov/library and click on the link for the mobile library catalog. Tom hopes this new service will make it easier for patrons to check their accounts and check on library materials and events from anyplace. For more information, call the library at 225-8670 and select option two. dry land is a myth Water world The New Hampshire Water Works Association’s annual operator training course is being held at the city’s water treatment plant on Hutchins Street. Firefighter awards
The Concord Fire Department recently held its annual awards ceremony to honor citizens and emergency responders for heroic acts in the past year, Aspell writes. Chris Johnson was named Firefighter of the Year. Johnson is a 10-year member of the Concord Fire Department who has made extensive contributions to the fire service, including service on the board of directors of Mutual Aid Americas, where he has facilitated the donation of fire apparatus and hundreds of sets of air masks and turnout gear to impoverished South American fire departments. Johnson also travelled to Ecuador to teach fire fighting skills.
