Franklin Pierce Law Center, 2 White St., introduced its new courtroom to the legal and technical communities at an open house on Dec. 9. Designed to seat a panel of appellate judges, the courtroom will be used to train law students with some of the most up-to-date courtroom technology and is expected to be used by the larger law community as well.
A simulation by third-year students, Amy Christiansen, Tyler Obenauf and criminal clinic professor Chuck Temple highlighted the ForTheRecord software used in 22,000 courts around the world, including the Hague, Old Bailey and the World Court. Pierce Law is the first institution in the world to use it for education.
The courtroom was just one piece of a major renovation at Pierce Law undertaken in the summer. Architectural plans and design were provided by DC Designs and the contractor was Milestone Engineering, both of Concord.
The audio and video technology integrated into the judge's bench, jury box, court reporter and defense and prosecution tables was designed and installed by Single Source Group of Nashua.
Single Source Group also teamed Pierce Law with ForTheRecord software through Electronic Dictation Systems of Bellows Falls, Vt. and the ELMO document camera that allows the jury to view evidence on retractable flat screens.
