The Concord Green Team is a group of teens doing groundswork around the city this summer. Each week, a team member tells us what the group has been up to. Here's the latest:
Monday/Tuesday: The Green Team began the week working with Ron Kelmarzcyk, the city forester. We met on Portsmouth Street, where we constructed a bridge on the Merrill Park trail. We then put our bittersweet removal skills to use, eradicating the vine in the forest around the trail. Finally, working with Ron, we dug and blazed a new section of trail. We hope you will enjoy it!
Wednesday: We were removing bittersweet yet again along Horseshoe Pond (Commercial Street). This invasive vine had been blocking the views of motorists and pedestrians alike.
Thursday: We met Ron again on Thackeray Road to clear conservation trails.
Friday: The team moved on to trails on Locke Road in East Concord. We placed a kiosk, observed as Ron placed a beaver box in the wetland habitat and cleared and relocated trails along the Merrimack River.
Throughout the week, the team continued to have fun while learning new skills on the trails. After building a bridge, battling bittersweet and poison ivy and working hard in the heat, we hope you will get outside and experience the beautiful trails in Concord!
See you around town.
