Concord High class celebrating 60 years

The Concord High School class of 1949 is celebrating its 60th reunion Aug. 26 and 27 at Makris Lobster and Steak House, 354 Sheep Davis Road. There are about 90 people expected for the gala event, of which 65 are class members. If you or someone you know were a member of that class and no invitation was received, call 225-5447 for more information.

Sadly, there are some who will not be attending because we have lost contact. If anyone knows addresses or telephone numbers for the following, please call the number above: Joyce Carr Mehta, Robert Edmonds, Irene LaPoint Fournier, Rebecca Leavitt Herbert, Lucille Morin Lewis, Jean Murphy Wood, Reginald Pierce, Ruth Rice Rolph, Marilyn Rogers Mills, Patricia Rolph Gray, Herbert Berquist, John Pillsbury, Leonard Rice, Barbara Tucker Babine and Phyllis Tucker Richardson.

Eleanor was nice enough to share photos of Concord High over the years with us. The class of 1949 was unique in that it attended all three incarnations of the school. Eleanor writes, “After the new junior high was built, the name went with it. About one block from the old high school/junior high school was Kimball School, an elementary school. Because it was in disrepair, it was torn down and its name moved to the former high school/junior high school building.” This is the building the school district plans to replace with a school serving elementary students from Kimball and Walker. Eleanor adds that there are a group from the class who attended the old Kimball School before it was razed.

That’s an impressive history, Eleanor!
