Oct. 1 at 7 p.m: Meet Casey Sherman, author of “Bad Blood: Freedom and Death in the White Mountains.”
Oct. 4 at 2 p.m: Former Vermont governor Howard Dean will discuss his new book on health care, “Howard Dean's Prescription for Real Healthcare Reform.”
Oct. 8 at 7 p.m: Meet Elizabeth Marshall Thomas, author of “The Hidden Life of Deer.” Thomas, the author of “The Tribe of Tiger” and “The Hidden Life of Dogs,” now goes further afield to describe the lives of these archetypal denizens of field and forest.
Oct. 10 at 10 a.m: It's another great event for kids! Local author Marty Kelley has a new book called “The Messiest Desk.” Jean Cochran and Jennifer Morris have collaborated on the new book, “On A Dark, Dark Night.”
Oct. 15 at 7 p.m: Andre Dubos III, the author of “The Garden of Last Days,” will join us to discuss and sign his new novel.
Oct. 17 at 1 p.m: It's hard to figure out what to suggest for readers of a certain age. They are not middle readers anymore, and they are not quite adults yet. They are what the industry calls “young adults.”
The best books for young adults respect their growing intelligence and experience without exposing them to material that is too “adult,” but also without skimping on difficult material they are ready to comprehend. Our three guests, D. Dina Friedman (“Escaping into the Night”), Jo Knowles (“Jumping off Swings”) and Michelle D. Kwasney (“Blue Plate Special”) have met that challenge admirably.

Oct. 22 at 7 p.m: Our favorite raconteur and wit is back with another fabulous Joe Gunther novel, “The Price of Malice.” Archer Mayor is a master of the police procedural, and his events are always a blast.
Oct. 29 at 7 p.m: Join us as we welcome David Schmahmann to Gibson's Bookstore. David is the author of “Nibble & Kuhn,” a new legal thriller published by Academy Chicago Press.
