It had a nice, doughy crust.

It had a thin bottom crust but a fluffy “holding area.” The slice we had was billed as “cheese,” but could have easily passed for “extra cheese.”

If it had been fresh, it probably would have been all right, but it wasn’t, so it was mediocre.

Sal's Pizza

80 Storrs St., 226-0297

Taste: 3.5

Variety: 5

Size: 5

Comments: The slice was a little dry (is there such a thing as “not greasy enough?”), but Sal’s more than made up for it with the multitude of different toppings it offers, as well as its giant slice size.
Vinnie's Pizzaria

200 S. Perfect cheese-browning technique, a crunchy-on-the-outside, chewy-on-the-inside crust and a light, flavorful sauce make for an excellent lunch.

Nothing about it stood out. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s right down the middle.

And the winner is ...

With a score of 14 out of 15 pizzas, Vinnie’s Pizzaria takes the cake – um, pie – in this competion, narrowly edging out Sal’s.
We can’t say that we didn’t enjoy judging this competion, but we will allow that we need to judge either a “Best Treadmills” or a “Top Sweatpants Retailers” contest pretty soon.
