Have you ever wondered if your dog would do great on stage? Well, here’s your chance to find out. The Community Players of Concord is hosting auditions for the classic musical Annie, and if you’re familiar with the story, it involves Annie’s dog, Sandy.
And you can’t put on a production of Annie without one of the main characters in the story. So the Players are holding auditions on Sunday for “a dramatic dog” on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Players’ Studio. What is a dramatic dog you ask? Well, one that can act would be helpful, but since it’s hard to know if your dog can remember lines and blocking, the best first step is for your best friend to fit the description. In addition to being dramatic, the folks in charge of this production are looking for a dog that is sandy in color (but doesn’t need to have the name Sandy) and preferably in the small to medium range.
If you don’t remember Sandy, Google is great for things like that.
We know what you’re thinking: who would have thought you would see a casting call for dogs in Concord? Well, now you have.
The Players are also looking for orphans for the show. Not real orphans – although they won’t be denied – but children between the ages of 8 to 12 years old to play orphans in the November production. Auditions will be held on Sunday for the pooches and orphans starting at 3 p.m.
In addition to the dogs and kids, they are seeking someone to play the role of Annie (also vital to the show), as well as many parts for male and female actors of all ages. The choreographer will be present to work on stage movement and dancing. Bring a prepared musical selection that shows your vocal range. Bring your music if you want to be accompanied at your audition.
Those auditions are being held Monday and Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. with callbacks to be held Aug. 22 (next Wednesday) if needed. All auditions will be held at the Players Studio, 435 Josiah Bartlett Road.
Rehearsals will be held on Sunday afternoons, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Show dates are Nov. 16-18 at the Concord City Auditorium.
