Trio of author events at Gibson’s
Gibson’s Bookstore is going to be busy over the next week-plus with visiting authors.
Sandy Stott, the “Accidents” editor at the journal of the Appalachian Mountain Club, delivers both a history and a celebration of the search-and-rescue workers who save countless lives in the White Mountains – along with a plea for us not to take their steadfastness and bravery for granted, as she presents Critical Hours: Search and Rescue in the White Mountains on Thursday.
On July 24, Greg Ahlgren will present the Civil War research he carefully gathered for his newest novel, Olustee: America’s Unfinished Civil War Battle. It shares the story of African-American Union soldiers, wounded and defeated following the Battle of Olustee in February 1864, which included the N.H. 7th Volunteer Regiment and that unit, together with its commander, Col. Joseph Abbott, the former Concord lawyer and newspaper editor, feature prominently in the novel.
Harvey. Maria. Irma. Sandy. Katrina. We live in a time of unprecedented hurricanes and catastrophic weather events, a time when it is increasingly clear that climate change is neither imagined nor distant – and that rising seas are transforming the coastline of the United States in irrevocable ways. Elizabeth Rush visits on July 25 to present Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore, and discuss our future.
The author events begin at 5:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
