The Concord Chorale will continue its 50th anniversary season with a pair of performances at South Congregational Church.
The upcoming concert, “Be of Good Comfort,” invites all to take a journey through American vocal music, starting with the work of William Billings, plus stirring compositions of New Hampshire’s own Amy Beach, some soul-satisfying spirituals and works by Randall Thompson and Moses Hogan. Interspersed is the stunning work of Arvo Part and a modern interpretation of Greg Brown.
In the middle of this a cappella program is a piano trio performing the Shostakovich “Piano Trio in E minor, Op. 67” led by their choral accompanist featuring Molly Lozeau, piano, Heather Braun-Bakken, violin; and Dorothy Braker, cello.
This concert explores the American choral tradition from its beginnings through modern day, plus an infusion of Eastern European and Russian music, as the Chorale continues to celebrate 50 years of singing in the capital region.
The shows are Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at South Church.
Advance tickets are $20 general admission and $15 for seniors; students are free with ID. Tickets may be purchased from Chorale members, online at concordchorale.org, at Gibson’s Bookstore (45 S. Main St.), and Merrimack County Savings Bank (89 N. Main St.) Prices increase at the door to $25 and $20.
