Saturday marks the 4th annual Independent Bookstore Day, a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. Every store is unique and independent, and every party is different. And you better believe Gibson’s Bookstore is taking part.
It’s the 20th anniversary of the U.S. publication of Harry Potter, and Gibson’s is dreaming of Hogwarts. Stop in to take their O.W.L. scavenger hunt (a Harry Potter badge for the first 100 to complete it).
Booksellers are recipe-testing cookbooks, and you’ll be able to taste the results.
There will be raffles for some cool prizes (one raffle ticket per book purchased) and advance reading copies to give away with each $25 you spend in the store.
Exclusive Independent Bookstore Day 2018 merchandise is on its way, including Dragons Love Tacos onesies, book club journals, a Coulson Whitehead quote pouch, the 2018 Flash Fiction collection (with pieces from great short-story authors including A.M.Homes, Etgar Keret, Celeste Ng, Amy Bloom and many others), and the Oxford Very Short Introduction to Feminism.
Why celebrate independent bookstores?
In a world of tweets and algorithms and pageless digital downloads, bookstores are not a dying anachronism. They are living, breathing organisms that continue to grow and expand. In fact, there are more of them this year than there were last year. And they are at your service.
Stop by Gibson’s any time Saturday and take part in the fun. For more info, call 224-0562 or go to gibsonsbookstore.com.
