There are some distinct honors in this world, and we can’t think of anything more high ranking around these parts than being named Mr. Concord.
In its second year, the Concord Contemporary Club fundraising pageant brings together some of the more recognizable men around town, who will then battle it out for the title.
After John Cimikoski took home the inaugural win in last year’s pageant, eight contestants will put on display their best talents and answer some hard hitting questions from the panel of four judges. Competing this year are: Chris Emond, executive director of the Concord Boys and Girls Club; Steve Caccia, vice president of student affairs at NHTI; DJ Nazzy, disc jockey and radio show host at WLNH; Brian Waldron, owner of Christian Michael Salon; Dana Dexter, Concord Police Officer; Dr. Ray Orzechowski, Concord dentist; Jim Rosenberg, attorney at Shaheen and Gordon; and Byron Champlin, program officer of Lincoln Financial.
“We have a great lineup of contestants this year, and we’re excited that these gentlemen are willing to compete. The talent segment of last year’s pageant was hilarious, and I expect it to be just as much fun this year,” said Mary McGahan, chairwoman of the event.
Money raised at the event will be donated to the Crisis Center of Central New Hampshire to provide services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse, stalking and child abuse.
“Last year we were able to donate $7,500 to the Crisis Center and this year we hope to exceed that amount,” McGahan said. “We all should support the efforts of the Crisis Center in the fight against domestic and sexual violence. This center provides a safe place for victims to go and helps give them the tools to make a better life for themselves and their children.”
And who will be responsible for deciding which of the fine gentlemen will be the next Mr. Concord? Well, Steve Duprey of the Duprey Companies – who we’re kind of surprised isn’t a contestant, Cheryl Coletti-Lawson of Hope for N.H. Recovery and Lauren Percy from Bow, who was named Miss New Hampshire earlier this year. And oh yeah, a guy by the name of Tim Goodwin. Maybe you’ve heard of him? He’s only the editor of this paper.
Adam Sexton of WMUR will be the emcee for the evening, and disc jockey Tim Patoine from Good Time DJ will provide special music and sound effects.
The Mr. Concord Pageant includes live and silent auctions as well as a wine pull. A selection of hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Tickets for the event, which will be held on Nov. 3 at the Holiday Inn, are $50 each, and may be purchased in advance at Cimo’s Deli, 250 South St; Christian Michael Hair Salon, 156 N. Main St.; or by calling McGahan at 731-6991. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. with the pageant to follow.
