You know it’s not hard to get us to try a new eating establishment in this neck of the woods.
So we recently caught wind that a new pastry shop had moved into the food court at Steeplegate Mall, and if there’s one thing we greatly enjoy, it’s dessert.
We later learned that Terrasini Pastry Shop, which specializes in Italian pastries, isn’t a brand new business, but rather one that made its way down from Main Street Laconia to the big city of Concord.
But to us, it didn’t really matter where they came from, the important thing is that they now are firmly implanted in our coverage area, which means a trip to the mall for a little taste tasting.
If you’ve been to the mall recently, there isn’t much in the way of places to eat at the food court – instead of Basil Pizza and Dunkin Donuts – so it’s not too hard to find, although there isn’t a sign up yet.
The glass display case will immediately catch your attention as it’s filled with all kinds of delicious looking pastries, cookies and cake slices.
Now it was just a matter of deciding what to bring back to the office for a mid-afternoon snack.
With the likes of tiramisu, cannolis, St. Josephs and chocolate cake slices on the menu that day, it was not an easy choice.
While we’ve heard tiramisu is tasty, this Insider is about as far from a coffee drinker as you can get, so we stayed away from that selection.
Instead, we opted for a Napoleon, which is layered with flaky puff pastry and homemade pastry cream – topped with a vanilla glaze.
The pastry was light and complimented the creamy, rich flavor of the cream. The thick layer of vanilla glaze was almost like a frosting. It was hard to put the spoon down once we dove into this one.
But we had to save room for the cream puff, which had a healthy amount of Bavarian cream inside the flaky outer shell, drizzled with chocolate. It was like an eclair, just in a different form – and let’s just say that one didn’t last long either. We are a huge fans of cream puffs and this one ranks right up there with the tastiest we’ve had.
This experience made us want to go back for more.
Terrasini just started doing salads and the plan was to add sandwiches and soups this week. So we’ll have to go back and try some of those – and you better believe we’ll grab another pastry while we’re there.
Terrasini is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
