Free concert at Penacook church
United Church of Penacook is hosting a concert on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.
Featuring Tenth Intervention, a trio of violin, cello and piano, the program will offer traditional classical music mixed with some more contemporary music. The concert is free and open to the public.

New bereavement group for children
H20 helping heal with others, a new monthly program offered for bereaved children (ages 6-18) and their families, begins Sept. 9 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Concord, 55 Bradley St. The program is held on the second Saturday of each month at the same time.
Grief is difficult. Connecting with others who have had a similar experience, in a safe and caring environment, often helps. H20 provides bereaved children and their families with coping skills and peer support, enabling them to experience and process their grief freely. Lunch is provided after each session. Accompanying adults may be asked to stay on site and are invited to participate in a concurrent, supportive program.
H20 is collaboratively offered by Concord Hospital, Concord Regional VNA, Boys and Girls Club of Greater Concord, and community partners and volunteers.

Sign up for Friends golf tournament
On Sept. 11, the Friends Program will hold its 20th annual golf tournament at Concord Country Club to support the Friends Youth Mentoring Program.
The tournament is a wonderful way to support the Friends Program while golfing at a challenging, yet fun course.
Friends Youth Mentoring matches children with a supportive, non-judgmental role model. Mentoring relationships create opportunities for growth, enhance self-esteem and improve behavior at home, in school and in the community. School-age junior Friends are referred to the program by parents, counselors and social workers. Great care is taken by trained staff to match youth with the right mentor. The good news is that nearly 100 children are currently paired with mentors.
Last year, volunteers devoted over 20,000 hours to mentor 120 Merrimack County youth. More than 50 children are waiting to be matched with a mentor. Fundraisers like our golf tournament support efforts to get kids off the wait list and matched with a mentor.
Cost is $125 per player or $500 for a foursome. This event sells out quickly so do not wait to register to play.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a tee time of 9 a.m.

New Hampshire native at Gibson’s
New Hampshire native Karen Beaudin returns to Gibson’s Bookstore on Friday at 5:30 p.m. to present her newest book, a fun mystery based on her three grandsons, Wyatt, Logan and Tucker, The Kirby Boys’ Adventure: Searching for the Lost Key! After a secret is uncovered in their backyard, Wyatt, Logan and Tucker must find a key to reveal the story behind it.
Beaudin will be joined by the book’s illustrator, Valerie Main, as they talk about the new book.
The event is free and open to the public.

Fall bulb sale through Sept. 11
Didn’t see that favorite flower come up this spring? Did the wacky weather kill off some of your most prized flower bulbs? Consider purchasing spring blooming bulbs from the Merrimack County Conservation District’s annual fall bulb fundraiser.
This year we’re offering an assortment of daffodils, hyacinths, tulips, iris, alliums and specialty bulbs. All bulbs have a hardiness zone of at least zone 5, to ensure that they will survive our New England winters.
Orders will be taken through Sept. 11. People will be able to pick up their orders at the MCCD office (10 Ferry St., Suite 211 in Concord) on Sept. 29, from 3 to 6 p.m. and at the Contoocook Farmers’ Market on Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon, just in time to get those bulbs planted before the first severe frost.

Life After Loss begins Sept. 12
Concord Regional VNA is offering Life After Loss, an eight-week adult grief discussion group on Tuesdays from 10:30 to noon beginning Sept. 12 at Havenwood-Heritage Heights, 33 Christian Ave.
Trained grief facilitators provide an opportunity for grief support and education to participants who have suffered a recent loss.

Get tickets for Dark Star Orchestra
Celebrating their 20th anniversary, Dark Star Orchestra, continues the Grateful Dead concert experience at the Capitol Center for the Arts on Nov. 21.
Their shows are built off the Dead’s extensive catalog. On any given night, the band will perform a show based on a set list from the Grateful Dead’s 30 years of extensive touring or use their catalog to program a unique set list for the show.
Tickets start at $32 and go on sale Friday at 11 a.m.

Registration open for golf tourney
The Concord Police Concord Regional Crimeline 18th annual golf tournament will be held Sept. 14 at Beaver Meadow Golf Course.
Cost is $100 per player and includes green fees, a cart, welcome bag, a homemade continental breakfast and lunch. There are also prizes for the top three finishers, longest drive and closest to the pin. After Sept. 1, cost increases to $125 per player.
