Pair of one-acts at Hatbox Theatre
Lend Me A Theater is bringing two, one-act plays, The Whole Shebang and Bob’s Date to the Hatbox Theatre for a two week run beginning Aug. 4.
The Whole Shebang by Rich Orloff asks the question “What if the entire universe was just some nerd’s science project?” In a classroom in a dimension far beyond ours, a student striving for a “Master of the Universe” degree gives an oral presentation on an unusual thesis – the creation of the heavens and the earth. Two professors and a dean interrogate the student and his two visual aids, a “typical” man and woman.
In Bob’s Date by John Shanahan, Bob is going on his first date in two years. All of his manly inner attributes – logic, confidence, nerves, libido and bull – are gearing up for the event. Then, a love-at-first-sight moment wakes long-sleeping emotion and she threatens to throw the night into chaos. But if the men weren’t ready to handle emotion, then they’re certainly not prepared to take on the memory of the woman who broke Bob’s heart.
The shows will be held Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. through Aug. 13. Tickets are $16.50 for adults; $13.50 for members, seniors and students. For more, visit hatboxnh.com.

Paper Store to help out Jimmy Fund
Through Aug. 15, customers at The Paper Store will be invited to contribute $1, $3 or $5 to the Jimmy Fund’s “Strike Out Cancer” pin-up campaign. In return for their contributions, customers will receive a baseball pin-up to write their name, or the name of a friend or loved one. The pin-ups will be displayed in store, showing customers how easy it is to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
The Paper Store has supported the Jimmy Fund since 2011, having raised more than $260,000 for the “Strike Out Cancer” campaign. When customers purchase a baseball pin-up, 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to the Jimmy Fund, which supports cancer research and patient care at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
