It had been quite some time since we last visited The Draft, so we decided to wander over there last week to refresh our memories about what they had on tap.
It was a miserable day full of rain and cold air, so we thought it would be uplifting to try a summery beer. It’s kind of like when pop radio stations play Christmas music in the middle of a heat wave.
We ended up trying 603 Brewery’s Summatime Session Ale, a light, session-style IPA.
I picked this beer mostly because of the super-cool spelling of “Summatime,” but also because I’m kind of starting to get into session IPAs after years of not liking them at all.
This one was more flavorful than some other session IPAs I’ve tried recently. It had a strong, hoppy smell but the flavor wasn’t too intense or bitey. It was light and easy to drink, but it definitely still had some of that hop-heavy IPA taste to it.
The Summatime beer had a crisp, refreshing feel, and didn’t linger in the mouth for very long. It has 4.5 percent alcohol by volume, so it’s pretty approachable for almost everyone. Its taste is bold but not overpowering, so you don’t have to be a serious IPA lover to appreciate it. If you like crisp, flavorful brews, give this one a try.
