As you know, we get some pretty tough assignments with this job – but having a cold beer on the clock is definitely not one of them.
That’s okay though, we deserve a little reward once in a while, as does everyone at the end of a tough work day.
So we meandered up to the bar at Area 23 last week looking for something new and different to wet our whistle, in the name of Insider science, of course.
And it didn’t take long for one brew in particular to catch our eye – the Lagunitas Fusion 39.
We’ve had quite a few of Lagunitas’s beers before, but somehow this American Pale Ale had eluded our taste buds. But not for much longer.
For $4, we got a pint of the 5.5 percent alcohol by volume creation, and after taking the ceremonial before-first-sip picture, it was time to see how well Lagunitas tackled the pale ale genre.
And the short answer is, quite well.
It had a nice hop flavor to it, but not one that’s going to overwhelm you or have you feeling a little tipsy after finishing your first one.
It’s brewed with tangerine peel, grapefruit and lemon, to give it a great citrus flavor.
It was easy to drink, but maybe too easy since we were left wanting another one (or two) immediately after the last sip.
We have to give it to the brewers at Lagunitas because this is definitely a beer we’d have again.
From what we were told, it’s not a brew you’ll find a lot of places, so if Area 23 is out of it next time you stop in, keep an eye out for it. This is one you’re definitely going to want to try.
