Talk about the great outdoors at True Brew

The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests is all about getting people outside to enjoy all that our great state has to offer.

But next Thursday (March 16), they actually want you to go inside – and talk about nature.

Dave Anderson, education director at the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, and WMUR’s Paula Tracy will partner for a new event called Suds and Stories from the Wilds of N.H. at True Brew Barista.

“We felt like this would be good because everybody loves a good pub night,” Anderson said.

It’s part of their “5 Easy Hikes in 5 Weeks” program, and is sandwiched between two hikes on either side. But you won’t have to do any hiking on this night, unless you go for one on your own.

It’s a pretty informal thing, which means it will likely be smashing success.

“Our primary goal is to meet more people and connect with the community,” Anderson said.

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on St. Patty’s Eve (which we’re pretty sure isn’t an actual holiday, although it definitely should be), True Brew will be home to all things nature.

You can play Stump the Naturalist, where you can ask Anderson just about anything you can think of when it comes to the outdoors in New Hampshire, forests, wildlife and ecology. There will be questions already thought of – or you can bring your own.

“We’ll let people ask any questions they want,” Anderson said. “This is just to have fun talking about nature, talking about trails.”

There will be Trails Trivia, where the audience will be asked a variety of questions.

“We’ll assign points that don’t really matter,” Anderson said.

But there will be a bunch of prizes to be given away.

And also, be prepared to hear plenty of stories.

“In the context of answering questions, we’ll tell stories,” Anderson said.

Anderson is even so confident in his knowledge, he said he’d buy a good friend some beers if he stumped him. Unfortunately, that is not a transferable offer.

“I’d go broke. I’m not that smart,” Anderson said.

While you can just show up to next Thursday’s event at True Brew, you can also register at forestsociety.org/ blog-post/5-easy-hikes-5-weeks-cure-cabin-fever-series-starts-feb-20. Just so they know about how many people to expect – and prizes to bring.
