It’s well known that many people out there need help when it comes to putting food on the table.
We sure wish that wasn’t the case, but that is unfortunately the reality of life.
Local food drives do a great job of helping bring awareness – and much needed supplies –in the fight to keep everyone fed.
But, you might not always think about the fact that there are lots of animals out there in need of food, especially at the Pope Memorial SPCA.
The local animal shelter is always looking for donations to keep those prospective pets well nourished before finding a new home. And GoodLife Programs & Activities is doing it’s part.
Through Friday, GoodLife is hosting a food and supplies drive at its Smokestack Center location, so feel free to drop by – and drop something off.
“All the staff here have pets and we’re constantly thinking of ways that GoodLife can give back to the community,” said Susan Greenblott, director of development and marketing at GoodLife.
Not only is the Pope Memorial SPCA in need of food for its large contingent of homeless and surrendered animals, but also supplies to keep the place clean and orderly.
“It’s definitely much needed,” Greenblott said.
The shelter is in need of unopened canned or bagged dry food for dogs, cats and rabbits to keep up the supply. Cat and dog treats are always welcomed to give the animals a little something special. Who doesn’t love a good treat from time to time?
“They didn’t specify, but the dogs and cats aren’t picky,” Greenblott said.
In addition to the food, the SPCA needs items like hand soap and hand sanitizer for its volunteers. Dish soap and bleach for cleaning, as well as small paper plates. Don’t forget about the toys, as well.
As of late last week, GoodLife had received quite a few donations, but with less than a week left in the drive, we sure hope that even more will be dropped off to help out.
If you want to purchase something and add to the collection, GoodLife is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For $1, you can also buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win that gigantic stuffed dog in the picture, too.
