It’s been several weeks since our last installment of Tasty Brews, and because of that delay, we went to the Red Blazer last week, where there are 35 beers on tap. Whenever we feel like we’re having Tasty Brews withdrawals, the vast selection at the Red Blazer is just what the doctor ordered.
Upon taking a seat at the bar, one tap handle among the dozens was pretty attention-grabbing: the cowish Shipyard one labeled Chocolate Milk Stout. A chocolate milk beer? Weird, I thought, but I’ll take one.
I’d had a different milk stout before, but not chocolate milk, so this was a brand-new experience. The first thing I must say is that I found myself searching for the taste of chocolate milk but never found it.
The beer had a vaguely chocolate milky smell, but I didn’t taste any. It was good – toasty, creamy, dark, rich, a bit sweet – but not chocolatey, which was just fine by me, since I’m not a huge fan of chocolate beers.
This one is 5.4 percent alcohol by volume, so it’s not too strong, not too mild – perfect for casually sipping on throughout the day.
If you like a thick, dark brew that has a little sweetness and mellowness to it, give this one a go.
