If you like good music and good beer, there’s one place you need to be on Saturday night: Area 23.
The craft brew bar at the Smokestack Center will host a CD release party for local musician Mary Fagan, who will be on hand with her trio and a special guest to play some music throughout the night. Her CD, Honey to the Bee, will be on site and available for $10.
So who is Mary Fagan, anyway?
“I’m kind of a gypsy,” she said. “I grew up in Bow, but lived in Colorado, North Carolina, Texas, California, for like 25 years or so.”
But she’s back in New Hampshire for the time being, and she just wants to get her music out there and let as many people listen to it as possible, and that’s why she’s doing this event at Area 23.
“I just figured Area 23 was a good place to have it,” she said, noting how the building has good acoustics for live music.
Fagan has already put out two albums, and this latest one is already on the shelves at Pitchfork Records downtown. You can also order CDs or download her music on her website, maryfagan.com.
At the release party/show on Saturday, she’ll be playing as a trio, featuring Morris Manning and Steve McBrian of The Crunchy Western Boys.
The trio doesn’t have an official name yet, Fagan said, but “we’re going by the Acoustic Loophole of Love Trio.” Can’t go wrong with a name like that.
The trio plays all types of music, but Fagan said Americana is probably the best way to describe it, since Americana draws from all different kinds of influences.
“There’s a mix of stuff,” Fagan said about the new album. “Country, one’s really a swing, jazz song, there’s some stuff that’s acoustic like singer/songwriter, and some of it is groovy.”
Opening for the Acoustic Loophole of Love will be Michelle Tilton and Herb Cameron from Acoustisaurus – as you can see, acoustic music will be a heavy theme for this night.
Tilton and Cameron will start playing at 7 p.m., with Fagan’s trio taking over from 8 to 10.
