It’s SNOB week again, and that means it’s time for another one-off special beer – here for about a week and then gone (in all likelihood) forever.
This year’s featured brewer is Rockingham Brewing Co. of Derry, and they’ve called the beer (wait for it) SNOB beer.
“We made a chocolate raisin porter, our little play on Raisinets,” said Rockingham co-founder Ali Buinicky.
Though most downtown watering holes were supposed to have the beer by last Friday, by Sunday we could find it only at Area 23 (Smokestack Center, 254 N. State St.) – nothing wrong with that, though.
The SNOB beer had a very roasty, toasty porter taste, not a sugary sweet one like its candy inspiration would suggest. In fact, it’s pretty hard to even notice the chocolate and raisin flavors unless you’re specifically trying to (in which case the placebo effect may be in play).
It’s very dark and rich, but not too strong – 5.5 percent alcohol by volume – so you can still enjoy the movies and make it home safely.
The beer should be available this week at Area 23, the Barley House, Penuche’s and True Brew Barista.
