Somewhat North of Boston Film Festival groupies might notice a little change this year.
For the last decade-plus, the annual weekend collection of film, music and beer has been simply known as SNOB. And while posters, T-shirts and promotional materials this year will all include the festival’s original name, there’s an evolution happening before your very eyes.
Along with SNOB, you’ll see the logo for New England Indie Fest as well. It’s not some new creation or replacement event, but rather what festival organizers are moving toward in the naming department.
“We don’t want people to forget about the SNOB name,” said Jay Doherty, executive director of the festival.
If you remember last year, we mentioned there was a name change on the horizon for the festival and this is year one of the transition. In recent years, the music and beer components have grown and the powers that be want the name to reflect that. But everyone knows that SNOB is where it all began.
“It’s the same festival. Just changing and evolving,” Doherty said. “We’re trying to make it more of an indie festival and not just film.”
And since the festival celebrates all things independent – from film to music to beer – creating a name that highlights that was the next direction to take it.
Plus, the connotation of SNOB sure does put off a nose-in-the-air aura, don’t you think?
But whatever it happens to be named, it sure is a weekend you don’t want to miss. Who doesn’t like movies, music and beer?
