If you missed last week’s issue, then you might not know that Sunday was kind of a big deal around these parts.
It was the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, so if you happened to see lots of people, like 4,500 of them, in the Memorial Field area wearing pink, that was why.
The annual walks are held in more than 300 communities nationwide during October (breast cancer awareness month), bring in lots of money for research, as well as provide support to those battling the disease.
For the last eight years, Concord has been the top per capita fundraiser in the country at a rate of $3.14.
On Sunday, the 24th annual walk in Concord brought in $476,510
The top team fundraiser was Let’s Hear it for the Girls, which totaled $26,331, followed by the Cure Crusaders at $13,288.
Concord has been participating in Making Strides since 1993, and has raised $7,481,964 for the American Cancer Society.
