If you happened to catch our Hidden Gems issue – which we know you did – you probably saw the spread we did on vanity license plates. We had a blast – and a very easy time – finding all kinds of funny and clever plates around Concord.
Pete Duval, a Concord real estate agent and vanity plate fan, got a kick out of the spread and tipped us off to a Facebook page he’s been running for the past few years.
It’s called VANITY PL8 (get it?), and it’s a hub for people to post pictures of zany license plates they find anywhere in the country, though the majority of the plates pictured on the page are from New Hampshire.
“For some reason, New Hampshire people love vanity plates – you see them everywhere,” Duval said. “People are expressing themselves in so many different ways.”
He started the page in 2014 because he just always liked seeing cool vanity license plates and wanted a place to amass a bunch of them.
“I checked to see if there was anything else out there that I could join, but there wasn’t,” he said.
The page is public and open, meaning anyone can poke around and see what’s been posted. If you want to post images of your own, just click the button to join the group.
Duval said he pretty much approves everyone who requests to join, he just likes to check and make sure everyone asking to join is an actual human being, not some spambot trying to drum up ad revenue or cause mayhem.
The group has 173 members and counting, and the page seems to get new content pretty regularly – at the time of this writing, there were more than a dozen new posts within the last day.
“I’ll get close to 60, 70 views per plate,” Duval said. He also said that there are more than 600 plates posted to the page, though there could be some doubles in there. The more creative, the more views they get, he said.
“I had one that was E=MC2 (EEQLMC2), and it was really well done and really creative.”
