JON BODELL / Insider staffConcord Public Library was full of slimy, dirty worms and their coaches last week – well, not the actual library, but the lawn outside of it was. The event was called Worm Races, and it was the first one the library had held in three years. The event was part of the library’s summer reading program, which has a sports theme this year. And hey, worm racing is a sport, so it fit right in. Above, from left: Maria and Aldo Ruelas, Laura Messenger and her son Elliott Pollard cheer on their worms. These little squirmers (the worms, not the kids) needed some encouragement in the form of a spray bottle. Right: Brennan Ryan, 4, inspects his worm before the race.
