Open auditions at Hatbox

Are you an actor or actress looking for your next role?

Well, then you better make your way over to Hatbox Theatre on Saturday for open auditions.

After Hatbox recently announced its upcoming season (look to your right), production companies involved with season one are looking to fill some roles.

“All of the shows with potential roles to cast will be here,” said Hatbox founder Andrew Pinard. “This is their opportunity to see people.”

There will be about a dozen companies on hand looking for new talent and that’s where you come in.

But this isn’t just an open audition for the on stage talent, companies are also looking for behind the scenes help in the form of designers, stage managers, builders, technicians, props builders, makeup artists, costumers and more.

“It’s a great opportunity to network,” Pinard said.

The auditions will run from 9 a.m. to noon and on a first come, first served basis. There’s no registration ahead of time – just show up that morning and put your name on the list.

“This is an open audition, there is no cost, only your time,” Pinard said. “And I recommend coming early.”

You can bring a prepared monologue, but that’s not required. Scripts will be available for auditions. Expect to be on stage for anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how many people show up.

Odds are you won’t walk out with part that day, but additional auditions with individual companies may be in your future.

“Some of the fall productions will definitely be looking to fill roles,” Pinard said.
